Is Insignia or Vizio a better brand TV? looking for a 26-inch?

I am looking to buy a new HDTV. I am now stuck between Vizio or Insignia. I looked up the original manufacturer of the Insignia i am looking at, and it looks like LG originally made it.

Both are 26″, the vizio is LED-LCD, the Insignia is 1080p which doesnt truly matter considering the screen size and i wont really be by it for anything that needs 1080p. the vizio is 720p. Both are within my price range and the only price difference is the vizio is $ 25 less, which could mean some other accessories i could get, but i am not thinking about that all too much.

I am unsure of which to get. I heard vizio had some problems a couple being ago, but recently they have gotten their act together and produce excellent quality things now. I heard excellent things about LG(original manufacturer for Insignia) but also some terrible things for the insignia tvs specifically.

I like the look/design of the vizio, but the insignia is not terrible. I went to both stores and checked out the TV in person and the picture is comparable to one another.

This is the vizio:

-It might say out of stock, but i found it in the store and they have decent stock, but if not i will just go with the other

This is the Insignia:

There really only seems to be slight differences, but i am not really educated in this stuff so i need a small help.

Any advice would be fantastic!

also: depending on the tv, is a protection plot worth export?
I looked up the response rate for the Insignia, and it looks like its around 8.0ms

My own personal preference would be the Vizio. I own 2 Vizios & am very pleased with them. Though, 26″ is as large as I would buy from that brand. Insignias have a very poor record. If you do buy the Insignia, get the extended warranty.

I’d avoid the Insignia, if only because you’d have to buy it at Best Buy, which has the worst return policy in the business. If you get it home and find that it’s unsuitable for any reason, BB will stick you for a stiff restocking fee if you bring it back. Not so at any digit of other vendors, like Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam’s Club, and possibly others.

Vizio was a low tier brand being ago, but specific models have started to show up in the top ten lists at Consumer Reports and other professional testing labs. I have a 24 inch Vizio in my office, about a year ancient, and it’s as excellent as anything in its class.

I wouldn’t get a protection plot with Vizio or LG. If they don’t fail during the return period, 30 to 90 days depending on the store, they’re doubtless going to be okay. Any repair it might subsequently need could cost less than the protection plot.

I WOULD consider a protection plot with a Samsung, which has a poor reputation for warranty support.

Followup per John’s answer: removing the restocking fee is excellent news, but as for Insignia being “praised” by Consumer Reports: not hardly. Insignia sets show up in just two of their many preference listings over the past year, #11 of 28 for a 42 inch LCD and #11 of 14 for a 32 inch model. There are clearly far better choices in all classes.

I’d like to offer a couple points of clarification to other responders’ posts:

Best Buy has recently discontinued all restocking fees except for special orders. Visit your local store or BestBuy.com for more details.

Insignia TVs are in fact reliable and have been praised by Consumer Reports. But I’m not here to sell you, so I will not try.

My contract ends in a few months and Orange contacted me a few weeks back offering me an upgrade…

The first customer services person told me they did a price contest… the second person said they didn’t….

At first they tried to charge me 100 pound for the LG Viewty on my 35 pound a month contract – Then they said they could give me the LG Viewty for only 5 pound on my contract….

So I accepted but then they clarified they did not have any in stock and I would be contacted when they at home in stock…

2 weeks later, now, I called them asking if it’s back in..it’s not. So I questioned if I could do my upgrade through one of the Orange shops.. everywhere I know they have in stock… But the man on the phone clarified to me that even though shops did do upgrades.. they would HAVE to charge me 100 pound for the phone.
I have tried to contact my orange shop and I got the answerphone.. So I hope they do contact me back…
Can the Orange shop offer excellent deals as well? Was that man lying? gr
They got back to me and said it depends what band i’m in… I questioned what band and he said she was not able to tell me and would charge 80 pound for the phone…. though if I was in band 4 or 5.. It would be free….

Is there anyway for me to find out what band i’m in without asking them… I pay 35 a month for my contract.. usualy up to 40 pounds though, I go over somtimes.

Answer by Nigel J
It sounds as if you are being messed about, if you still want to stay with orange wait til your contract expires and get a new contract with them and you will get the lg viewty for free, otherwise go with a different network provider there is no way you should be paying for a phone on a contract these days they are just trying to get some extra money from you.
