The most recent version of the UX is the ux 490n. I currently have this version and it is great. I would like to suggest you take a look at the samsung q1 ultra premium. I bought this a month ago off of ebay and I personally prefer it over the ux. The q1 is just as great as the ux but it has a 7 in screen while the sony has a 4.5 in screen, and I have just found it to be much easier and fun to use. It also comes with dual camera’s, 80gb hdd, blackberry style split keyboard, and a fingerprint reader.
It is a great option at a much cheaper price. If you were to try and get the ux 490n it would run you anywere from 600 to 1000. I got the q1 ultra premium for 250 on ebay, so the q1 will run you 200 to 500. I simply dont see the point in spending 400-700 dollars more when you could simply get one just as good, if not better, for as low as 200.

Good luck, you really will love either the Ux or the q1, both are great and can replace your laptop, like they have done for me.
Hope this helps (:->

Asus’ funky new Eee UMPC (aka their version of the "0 notebook").

I’ve been playing with it and it’s quite an amazing little thing. It’s as big as a DVD box…. and I’d say it has the potential to shake up the market quite a bit!

Read more about it in the November issue of CHARGED SOUTHERN AFRICA or see www.charged.co.za

Im trying to figure out if I should but a UMPC or a regular laptop
but I dont know that much about UMPC’s

What should i look for
Will they put my home pc internet on it
How much is a reasonable cost and is it worth it?

Answer by redmisten
It all depends on what you want .
It has some advantages and disadvantages compared to a standard laptop.
It is smaller and lighter.
Has touchscreen
It is slower than a laptop usually between 700mhz and 1.3 ghz
Has no cd or dvd drives due to its size so to install any other programs you have to get an external drive.
Battery life isn’t as good
Prices are usually between $ 1000.00 and $ 2500.00
You can get them with a preinstalled broadband connection to be activated from your cell phone company.

As far as it being worth it i would say if you can use a laptop It would be better and cheaper for most applications .
If you need a smaller device but still need to be able to run a standard operating system like windows vista or xp go with the umpc.
