Do airtime data rates apply to non-phone PDAs using Wi-Fi?

Do airtime data rates apply to non-phone PDAs using Wi-Fi?

I have an HP iPAQ 111, which isn’t a phone, it’s just a PPC. I connect to the internet on it with WiFi, by my home wireless network.

When Jbed opens a MIDlet that uses the internet, like Opera Mini 4, it brings up a warning about “airtime fees.”

Does this apply to me?

Answer by dr. yahoo
no, if you’re by a wifi network then data rates do not apply to you. Besides, who’s going to bill you?

Airtime doesn’t apply to Wi-Fi, even in a phone. Your software is just assuming that it’s on a phone.

Answer by David B
No, you are by your home wireless network to connect. The warning is just there to warn you in case you are by your phone carrier to connect online. Since the PDA isn’t a phone, it’s not possible for it to use “airtime”.

Basically it’s just a disclaimer to protect the company so that you won’t sue them when they get charged $ 200+.

My phone bill is a whooping $ 300.00/month, with two shape, a mifi, and no unlimited calling. The Page Plus Cellular deal is unlimited talk and text (no multimedia messaging included) with 40 MB web for $ 39.95/month. I am only going to terminate my line and possibly even the mifi. Should I drop Verizon Wireless and go with Page Plus Cellular? I know PPC runs off VW network, but have inferior service, As long as I can talk, I estimate it doesn’t really matter. What is your opinion? A friend told me PPC is much better than Boost Mobile unlimited network. Thank you in enhancement.

yes

I have verizon and like it. Yes it is a bit more expensive than other companies but you have to consider everything that goes into it. Verizon has the best service and fewest dropped calls (no i don’t mean to signal like a comercial but it is what i have learned) I also like the phones that verizon offers. I personally would stick with verizon even if it is a bit more expensive because you are paying for a excellent service compared to a crappy cheep one. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I’ve never heard of PPC, but I know that prepaid phone companies, even though they run off of the towers of other larger companies, still have inferior service like you said. You’re looking at ahead of schedule termination fees for 1 or 2 of those shape, I’m betting. You might be able to change the digit of minutes you have per month, rub out/block features such as messaging/web, and/or see if you have a lower option for the mifi card. The buck option they have for family plans is 2 shape for 69.99 +taxes and fees which gives you 700 minutes and unlimited night and weekend minutes, but nothing else. The buck plot with the mifi is 39.99/month for 250 MB of data transfer.

You could try a lower messaging wrap too, if you need still the messaging. Though, if you have Blackberry phones or othersmart phoness, you’re still vital to have the data wrap and there’s no way around that unless you change to a phone that doesn’t require one, but that can be costly if you’re noeligiblele for an upgrade.

I have been with PagePlus for 2 being and have been more than satisfied with it because I only use my phone for voice and text. If you are trying to run a Blackberry or some other smartphone, then stick with Verizon.

MVNOs are not excellent for data-heavy users. I have a Broadband plot with Verizon for wireless Internet.

And as you noted, PagePlus is running off of VzW’s towers, so you get the same coverage. Someone can send an e-mail to your PagePlus phone in the same format: 1234567890@vtext.com

PagePlus’ customer service is understaffed, so it may take some time to get someone on the phone to get started. But once that’s out of the way, you can easily maintain your account on their user-friendly website thereafter.

Given the coverage and price, I have no need for a landline. PagePlus voice in combination with VzW Broadband makes my communications completely portable and completely wireless.
