Answer by Babs G
A=B + 1/2 * P * s
B = base area
P = perimeter of the base
s = slant height

Find slant hright
a^2+b^=c^2 (b^2 is slant so)
100 (10^2)- 64(8^2)= 36
sqrt of 36 is 6 so

A=8 + 1/2 * (8*4) * 6
A=8+96
A=104 (I reckon that is right)

Hope I helped.

If the base is 8 by 8 and the height is 10, you need to figure out what is called the “slant height”. To do that imagine a vertical line dropped down from the top to the base and intersecting the base at right angles. If you looked at the pyramid from the side, you would see a right triangle with a base of 4 and a height of 10. So by Pythagoras, the slant height would be √(4² + 10²) = 10.770.

Now you have 4 triangles, (one on each side of the pyramid) each with a base of 8 and a height of 10.770, so the area of all 4 sides of the pyramid would be:

4 * 1/2 * 8 * 10.770 = 172.325

If you want to add in the area of the base, it’s 8 X 8 = 64

assuming it is a regular pyramid with a square base:

first, solve for the area of the base (square)
A=s*s or A=s^2
A=8*8
A=64 square units

by pythagorean theorem, solve for hte height of each side of the pyramid ( from center of edge to vertex):
b=height = 10
a=4 (from center of the square to center of edge)
c^2=a^2+b^2
c^2=4^2+10^2
c=sqrt(116)
c=10.77 (approximately)
solve for the area of a triangle(this is equal for all triangles of the pyramid)
A=1/2*base*height
A=1/2*8*10.77
A=43.08 square units

Surface Area = Area of square + 4 * Area of Triangle
Surface Area = 64 + 4*43.08
Surface Area = 64+172.32
Surface Area = 236.32 square units

Brief info
More information

The Guachimontones are a set of pyramid-like structures that were used for ceremonial dances, rituals, and ball playing. The dating of these structures support the existence of one of the oldest civilizations in the whole of Mezoamerica. Teuchitlån sits in the valley at the base of the hills and grew up around the natural water source. The valley itself is farmland of sugar cane and agave.

I need to find the Surface Area, Unencumbered Area and Volume of a regular triangular pyramid with a base of 10 and ht of 12?
If it is a triangular pyramid, would the perimiter be 30 and not 40 as with a square pyramid?

Answer by Pi R Squared
Hi,

If the height is 12 and the base edge is 10, then its apothem (half the base edge) is 5. The slant height is found by:

a² + b² = c²

12² + 5² = c²

144 + 25 = c²

169 = c²

13 = slant height, s

Unencumbered Area = ½Ps

Unencumbered Area = ½(40)(13)

Unencumbered Area = 260 <==ANSWER

Surface area = Base + unencumbered area

Surface area = 10² + 260

Surface area = 360 <==ANSWER

V = ⅓ B h

V = ⅓(100)(12)

V = 400 <==ANSWER

I hope that helps!! :-)
