Thinking of rooting my HTC Hero?

I am thinking of rooting my Hero and installing CyanogenMod. I know how to do it but want to know the features and advantages. I’m a gamer and wondering if it will affect android games(better or worse).

Rooting any android phone can improve many features of the phone, especially the gaming features. If you are an android gamer then I would say go for it, but be very careful because you can potentially brick your phone. I almost bricked my droid2, but thankfully I made a few changes and it’s now rooted nicely with all the bells and whistles.

Once you root the phone you should download an app called Droid Overclock. This will allow you to increase your processing speed significantly. I increased my Droid2 from 1 ghz to 1.3ghz, and now gaming is very smooth and responsive (with improved battery life too). Also download CacheMate to clean the cache of your phone daily. It will keep your phone running in top condition.

Blackberry, for sure. Anything you think you want to do with the HTC you can do with the Blackberry, and do it better. Trust me, Windows Movbile is lame. The main difference is the connection speed, cause the 8900 typically is not 3G, depends on the carrier it was made for.
