Android 1.5 to 2.1 on HTC Hero?

I tried to bring up to date my HERO phone software and got

Error in applypatch(status 256)
applypatch -c /system/etc/wifi/tiwlan.ini f4b4b169fe8f5a96aef730d117e7810179b50c54 f3c12736708c2d770c9919d684cb7713b5f51d5c
Installation aborted

How can I fix this?

I suggest calling tech support.Clarify your issue and question to do some distress shooting steps.call from another phone besides your Hero

I have a HTC Hero and have found a couple of valid roms which i want to try out on my phone. Halfway through the installation of the new rom the phone tells me that the installation was aborted……..does anyone know what to do?

no but how do i place clockwork…..i have something but i have no clue what its called and it seems to be terrible…..

Are you rooted and have flashed a custom recovery such as clockwork mod?????

You need to be rooted then go to the promote and get ROM administrator use it to sparkle a custom recovery
