Which phone should I get : HTC Touch HD or Samsung Omnia?

Which phone should I get : HTC Touch HD or Samsung Omnia?

I looking to get a smart phone with Windows Mobile and am trying to choose between the HTC Touch HD and the Samsung Omnia.

Things I like about the HTC Touch HD are:
* Large/high resolution screen
* TouchFlow 3D interface
* Sleek design
* Responsive screen

Things I like about the Samsung Omnia are:
* Optical mouse pad
* More managable price
* More supported codecs
* Camera with sparkle

Any advice to help me choose would be greatly appreciated. No other phone is an option, so don’t suggest the iPhone or the Xperia X1.

In my opinion, I would go with the Omnia. Main reasons, stronger battery life, comes in 2 memory sizes…8 or 16 and then you can add more if you opt to, its a small bit lighter than the HD, and a better processor. I also believe Samsung makes some of the best phones out there! The HD is a small heave and huge all around. Nice thing is that it has a proximity sensor, a small larger screen but not by much.

I would go with hd

-it is much better for watching videos
-has a 3.5mm jack – so u dont hv to carry an extra cord or terrible headphones that comes with the phone
-ok its camera lacks sparkle but u shudnt be export these phones to take pictures (it has a better autofocus everywhere it focuses on the area u touch) but worse video recording (anyway if u wna take excellent pictures/videos get a samsung innov8 or lg renoir)
-most htc hd devices ship with an 8gb memor card
-also comes with a pouch to place hd in to preclude scratches
-the screen is far better (about 4x better resolution!, same quantity of colors)
-altho the difference between 3.2″ and 3.8″ might not seem like much on paper it is actaully a lot for a phone. bcos u must not forget that this is diagonal screen size. the difference in size is about that u get between an iphone and nokia n95 8gb but the difference between screen size on omnia and hd is really even greater
-has proximity sensor
-windows mobile is covered (most of the time very nicely) with touchflo whereas on the omnia u use the actual winmo much more
-omnia has no stylus slot, htc hd has a stylus slot which is detected magnetically by the phone so it can come out of standby wen u pull it out
-omnia has poor sunlight legibility altho htc hd is not far better, it is better
-omnias memory card is not hot-swappable
-omnia has a non-standard show resolution which makes finding apps and pictures even harder
-omnia has no dedicated 3D accelerator
-omnia has a non-standard USB port
-omnias Web browser lacks real Sparkle support but u can get proper sparkle on hd by downloading it (like on xperia x1)
-full web page is showed in browser thanks to its fantastic resolution
-HTC HDs screen is more responsive and this is v vital

omnia has better build quality and better camera
omnia has a slightly quicker procesor but less RAM and half the ROM of HD

i say get HTC HD

i was wondering if you can get the iphone theme or that slide lock and menu on htc touch hd as it’s a window mobile device

because other winmo phones have it such as the omnia,
is there a special one for it or the same one used on omnia and etc etc??

can anyone gimme a link for it if anyone has it

and which is better htc touch hd or omnia?

thank you

the slide to unlock feature is really very simple to get (and far more functional) on recent windows mobile phones. Simply download a program called s2u2 from http://www.ac-s2.com/ and bed in it. Make sure you download the VGA version (which also works on WVGA screens like the HD).

I also encourage you to check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthre… if you find any problems or need help with the software in any way.

It can also be customized with different skins/themes that are pretty incredible. Here’s one example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthre…

You may want to look around that whole site, you’ll learn a LOT about your phone and all of the things you can do with it. There are a lot of people skinning that app and the phone in general.

As to which is better, the HD is technically superior in each way. Higher resolution screen, more sensors, better camera, and more hackable if you want to get into that.

Hands on with HTC HD7S: aka the Windows Phone that used to be T-Mobile’s
HTC and Microsoft are in their third year of making smartphones in the “HD” product line, and the two companies look to have finally hit their stride with the new HD7S, which is a slightly revamped version of the four-month-ancient HD7, completely ready for a world everywhere T-Mobile USA no longer exists.
