Annoying boss who calls on weeknights and weekends?
I have a boss who issued my office phones (there are about 5 of us) and they are your basic flip phone, no email, no camera, not allowed to text. I have been using my personal phone (HTC Tilt) for work and having the calls on my company phone forwarded to my personal phone. I use my personal phone for work bc it has a camera, can text, check email, plus GPS for when I have to go to a jobsite. Well lately we have been having problems at a jobsite about 2 hours away and he calls to tell me that I might have to go out there on a weekend or weeknight with no notice (ie oil will spill into a waterway if we don’t) and the expectation was that we are to answer our phones when they call no matter when. I don’t get paid to be on call and yet it’s expected. I also don’t charge for my time when my boss calls nor do I get reimbursed for my phone even if I am dead in the water without it. Am I life taken benefit of and should I go back to using my company phone and tell them to pound salt when I can’t check my email or take pictures on it?
I’m salary but paid honest time overtime.

thats your boss’s job. your boss is a loser.

Just don’t answer your phone. Unless you are paid for life on call, simply aver that you were asleep or at the gym or in the movie theatre.

if you are salary you are required to to do what they want, if you are hourly than you may have to do some negotiating with the boss or go to the labor board

I am one of persons “loser” bosses. If my employees do not answer the phone consistently, then I look to hire someone who will.
Everyone has a choice. All the time.
Excellent luck!

If you are on salary, you ARE life paid to be on call. If you are paid hourly, then you must be paid for the hours you work.
No way would I use personal property (like a phone) to make my boss’s life simpler, or make money for my employer. If they gave you a plain phone for work, use a plain for for work. If they don’t like it, tell them they can any get a phone with the capabilities they want, or the can accept the results from the phone they gave you. Stand your ground. Don’t take the simple way out by using your phone.
You will probably need to find a different job. I suggest you start NOW.

I’m on a telus plot with an android HTC hero, and have been for about 7 months now. I recently called the Telus public, and they had mentioned some deals on getting a 3 year contract. I’ve really been looking into the iphone and I was wondering if maybe now that they’ve seen me pay my bills on a phone I bought outright, they might bypass the credit check as I have small credit to go on. I just dont want to pay a $ 400 deposit to take benefit of some sweet deals they have for me on the site. Any answers?

7 months is not a real assessment of how you are at paying a bill. Everyone must submit to a credit check but it is not the end of the world if you have no credit or terrible credit. Take a look at this…
