Anybody know a good and safe way to root a HTC desire?

Here is the fone spec:

HTC Desire with HTC Sense
Android Version — 2.2
Kernel — 2.6.32.15-g2633d94
software number — 2.33.161.2

Does any person have some excellent instructions for this particular handset and also a excellent rom to use? Im a noob please be specific. THank you very much in advance.

heres what I pulled up on google, i havent too much experience with Droids and rooting as I do with apple harvest

here are the instructions via the site:

1. Convert your microSD card into a gold card by later the instructions here.

2. Burn the ISO image to a bootable CD and boot your PC from it. Or use a virtualization software such as VMWare Player.

3. When prompted to load Linux, press Enter and click the monitor icon at the bottom of the screen to open a terminal window.

4. Turn off your HTC Desire. Turn it back on by holding down the 'back' button.

5. When you see 'FASTBOOT' on the Desire screen, connect it to your Computer and enter the later commands in the terminal window:

sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom
sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom/root
sudo ./step1.sh

6. Now steer to 'BOOTLOADER' using the optical trackball.

7. Go to 'RECOVERY' option on the menu using the volume buttons, and select this option using the Power button.

8. In the terminal window enter the mandate:

sudo ./step2.sh

i was looking around the verizon store today and i liked the Incredible by HTC, but i also like the Droid 2 global. i liked them both but they have different software and stuff, i was just wondering in general though, does HTC make better Android powered phones or does Motorola?

well i’ve used both and they’re the same… they use the same exact software just it looks different and with 91 pandahome 2 u can exchange that to any of the two.

so it just comes down to if you want a keyboard what camera u want and what u reckon looks the best.
