Will getting a DVI-I cable increase my picture quality?

Will getting a DVI-I cable increase my picture quality?

I recently bought a new 22 inch Samsung SyncMaster 220wm monitor, and I was delighted to see the inclusion of a DVI port (mind you, this was my first time over 19 inches), because by graphics card supported it. After looking up DVI up on Wikipedia, I found that there was multiple cables. The DVI cable that shiipped with the monitor was a DVI-D Single link cable, however, both my graphics card and monitor support DVI-I Dual-link. If I go out and buy one of the DVI-I DL cables, will that increase picture quality or add any more functionality? Would it allow me to connect to any other devices, by any chance?

If you’re already using a DVI cable, you’re probably fine. It likely wouldn’t be worth spending the money on another one. As long as you’re on DVI, it’s a digital connection and will give you nice quality.

Yes but not so you would notice the difference mate.

i have a 2x 24inch samsung 245, i had it with VGA for first couple of days, then switched to DVI. I really did not notice a big change to be honest… might i also add that i have a 8800GTX gfx card with dual DVI out.

I use my computer only for graphic design, and i have it extremely fine tuned, so i have no idea how somoene else would ever want to say it makes a big difference.

It does make a finer difference as DVI is more wires, however none that a standard or even a gamer would notice.

If you do have a DVI coord laying around or can get one for cheap, or money isnt of an issue, than sure get yourself one.

by the way, good choice on the new monitor!
I dont think the DVI cable is used to connect to any other decides but LCD/TFT monitors. Maybe some older plasma/lcd tvs?

to answer your question, run the dvi-i dual link, since ya say that is what your monitor supports…….i run dvi-d dual link to a 22′ wide screen…….when i switched from vga to dvi, i saw a little difference, picture was a little sharper…..but it is not a OMG this is awesome……….just a little sharper, at least that is what i saw…but i would try it, maybe you will have a better result than me, plus the cables are only like 12 bux………..scott……..

A really handy tool if you use GTD is the PigPog PDA which is a notebook with a system of tabs and ruled lines.

hi ya I’ve been looking for more ram for some time now. I’ve got 2gb right now, but it doesn’t seem to be enough to run my x64 OS. I just found out that some computers can only hold a certain amount of ram per slot, but i want to upgrade to 4gb, but i can’t use all 4 slots (see below). Anyways here are my specs i was wondering if anything i upgraded would have helped so
Acer Aspire T180

My computer when i first got it

Windows Vista home basic edition
amd athlon 3500+ 64 2.2ghz (only single core :( )
160gb HDD
acer 250w power supply
nforce chip set
512mb ram (1×512) ddr2
Dell ee73 17″ crt monitor

Here are my specs now
Windows 7 Beta x64
amd athlon 64 2.2ghz (still needs to b upped considering the new Phenom 2 x4)
2gb ram (4×512) ddr2
500gb HDD 16mb cache
ati radeon HD4850 gpu oc’d from 625/993 to 750/1100
samsung syncmaster 24″ 1920×1200 monitor
dynex 500w psu
proper cooling

so yeah i just 4gb ram, but i cant have four slots because there’s something apparently when you have amd 64 that’s not overclocked and a all ram slots taken up, the ram speeds are cut down to 400mhz. its true, my 667mhz ram (says on them) are seen as 400 on my computer, but if i take out one it says 667. On the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclock#Advantages
uhh ya apperntly i can only take 1gb ram/stick. anyone know how to overclock an nforce chipset and locked cpu?

Answer by Paul S
Have you checked at http://www.crucial.com/ to see if your motherboard can take 2x2GB sticks of RAM?
You may be able to, which would remove the problem of taking up all 4 RAM slots.

Answer by xeliphias
get 2 2gig sticks… problem solved.

Answer by Richard
you could try some 2GB stips of DDR2, 64 bit windows will suupport them, but your mother board may not.
