If I take my HTC Hero (Sprint) to the UK, can I use it as a wireless internet device/mp3 player? No charge?

Basically, will my HTC Hero try to connect to the UK cell networks, thus charging me serious roaming charges and penalties? I want to use it like an ipod touch (wireless internet, mp3 player) but want to avoid all that hassle. Also, if I can, can I use my apps on just wireless?

Just turn off the 3G/EDGE/etc. in the settings, and then you just use WiFi.

Yeah, it should work fine. I’m by mine like that right now here in the US, because I can’t activate it in anticipation of the next billing cycle. Don’t worry about it trying to connect to UK networks, since there aren’t any CDMA ones anyway. Of course, it can never hurt to turn off the 3G receiver just to be sure.
