How do I have my iPhone 3G replaced without going to an Apple Store?

My iPhone 3G has a defect (there’s a strip of unsympathetic touch screen) and I want to have it replaced. I bought it only last week. I tried going to the Apple Support site and filling out my serial number and all, but it only allows me to select my accessories in the “What to replace” drilldown lists! How do I have the phone replaced? Going to an Apple Store isn’t an option.

go to the place were u bought it…(bring the proof of hold and tell them theres a defect somewhere on the screen) excellent luck

do you freakin’ live in a tiny dark small cave in the deep canyons of the appaliacian mountains or the himalyas with internet sources or wifi cuz if you REALLY want your ipod replaced, you cannot do it over the internet you REALLY need to go to the apple store it has to be an option

you may maybe go to ebay or wal-mart or theplace that you bought it unless it was an apple store

The reason I question is because I need to upload the 2.2 software/update. And my iphone takes forever to back up.

When you plug your iPhone into iTunes there should be two options in the General Tab saying YES or NO to backing up your iPhone each time you connect it to your computer – click the “no I don’t want to” option ( they should be pretty obvious unless you can’t see or can’t read.)

just check the sync manually tab on your itunes preferences

At first go when you plug in your iphone I am guessing that itunes would detect the same and start backing it up.

What you need to do is on the page where itunes show that Iphone is connected you would see three options

1. Automatically Sync when this phone is connected
2. Sync only checked songs and record
3. Manually manage music and record

Just uncheck the option of Automatically sync when this phone is connected, this way you would be able to only manually back up or sync your phone.
