Well this would depend on what you are going to do with the phone, are you just buying a phone for looks? or for the software in it?

Looks?

If you are buying the phone for pure looks then go with the Iphone because it just does have a awesome finish and look to it over the T-mobile G1 but if you are going for:

Software?

Then I would go with the T-mobile G1. I say this because the software is open source and this gives developers a chance to make what they want and put it out there for free which is something Apple doesn’t do with there market place. I know that the G1 doesn’t have a lot software yet but for what they have now is great, wait a few months and you will see nothing but software coming out of the market for the G1 and most likely it will be free too.

In The End:

I would go with the T-mobile G1 because I like software and I my self am thinking of a program to make on the phone. This is my reason for getting the phone. Now it is your choice to what you want to buy, but remember that software is a big piece of the picture.
