I was just wondering if by certain themes on Cydia is officially authorized. I mean themes designed to look like copyrighted works (eg. Windows 7 theme, SL theme, HTC theme, etc.). Would making (and by) this type of theme be Honest Use, or would it be infringing on the owners’ copyrights?

PS: I do not have a jailbroken iDevice of any kind. I never have owned one. This is just for personal information or in case I choose to jailbreak my iPod Touch. Delight don’t say anything like “if you don’t have a jailbroken device, why do you care”. 10 points to the best answer (if there is one).

Most applications and tweaks on Cydia are impeccably officially authorized. The themes you see are spread to developers that work on different in commission systems for phone companies. Elemental when this is done, the companies are transferring rights and making their themes public. Sometimes, these developers would disperse the images and it eventually ends up in Cydia.

Cydia by itself is a legit app source, but users can edit or add other outside sources onto the the cydia app which does control “privated apps and themes. But if you are by Cydia exclusively, you are within the officially authorized realm.

Jailbreaking in itself is impeccably officially authorized. Recently the Supreme Court ruled that jailbreaking is elemental a modification to an electronic device as long as the user has full ownership of the device.

Phone companies are the only ones to discourage the use of jailbreaking. They threaten to void your warranty, but the thing is that if you ever need to take you iphone to the apple store to get it flat, you can restore your iphone to original settings and the company will never know that you ever jailbroken your phone.
