I am not sure about that , but from some websites, it looks like Google is going to give their Google Andriod away for free soon.

I live in Canada and have an HTC Magic with Android on it. I’m with Rogers, because they were the only ones with 3G towers in my small town. I want to know about the firmware updates (ie. Android 2.1). Will it automatically give me the update for free? And how can I update (legally) to 2.0.1?

The updates are free, and I reckon when the firmware updates are available it will be up to the carrier (Rogers in your case) to push it to the phone, even if not to every single customer all at once, it will be staggered.

At least that’s how its been in the US…(heck the majority of phones here don’t have 2.0, only the Droid/Achievement, which was unrestricted with it)
