Whats the difference between Jailbreaking an iPhone and Unlocking a iPhone?
What’s the difference I know how to jailbreak but how do you unlock. I really need an iPhone to T-Mobile but what do I need to do it. It needs to be free though.

Unlocking is lifting the bar that your service provider has induced on your phone which restrict the use of other providers usim cards.
Jailbreaking is tampering or exploiting the operating firmware of the iPhone in order to crack apple’s mandate on the phones applications and media.
jailbreaking allows having iPhone apps for free and having apps from cydia that AppStore doesn’t have. Majority of jailbreaks make unlocking the iPhone possible
unlocking by exploiting the firmware works as ling as the firmware is running. Restoring the iPhone will need new jailbreaking and then unlocking again.
Unlocking performed via the service provider or via apple is permanent.
There is certain procedure for jailbreaking and unlocking for each iPhone (iPod or ipad) depending on the model, firmware and sometimes even the date of manufacturing.

JailBreak VS Unlocking an iPhone!
JailBreak: will allow you to have free apps from store and cydia! however it will “VOID YOUR WARRANTY” also there are instanced where people try to JailBreak the phone and got it bricked or dead!
Unlocking is done at remote end also called Factory Unlocking. This is secure safe and permanent unlock, unlike JailBreak where you have to keep doing it again after software upgrade.
Unlocking is permanent and you dont have to worry about it after upgrading..
It also allows you to use your phone with any other GSM provider, within USA or worldwide. Good if you are traveling abroad or want to switch providers in your country.
I recently unlocked my phone from ATT and using Tmobile sim at the moment, though main reason for my unlock is my upcoming tour to Europe. It will save me on roaming charges! as I will be using local sims from network providers in EU.

Jailbreaking :
iPhone OS uses two partitions – first on is the media partition and second one is the operating system partition. Music, movies, contacts, App Store apps etc. are stored on the media partition. This partition is usually the size of your iPhone's memory capacity, minus 500-600MB for the OS partition. Because of the way that Apple have set up the iPhone OS, we can not do any hacking in this easily accessible partition. To hack the device, we must get into the OS partition. The OS partition, the space on the iPhone that Apple has locked us out of, is where the jailbreak lies.
Unlocking :
Unlocking your device means to open up the iPhone's modem to accept SIM cards from unofficial carriers. For example In the US, iPhone will not connect to any carrier other than AT&T, unless it is unlocked. Should you want to use your iPhone with another GSM carrier, you need to unlock. Just as iPhone OS controls the applications that you interact with whenever you use your phone, the baseband processor controls the modem. The baseband processor has its own, separate firmware from the main OS, called the baseband firmware. During most iPhone software updates, Apple update the baseband firmware on the device. The unlock lies in the baseband firmware, by patching out certain bytes, you can bypass the SIM check. For some devices, updated basebands can mean the inability to software unlock your phone.

I want to send my mp3 files to my iphone and use them as ringtones, how can I do that?
I have a jailbroken iphone, and I curently do not have a sim card so I cannot use sms or mms. I’d prefer a free program or method for windows.
P.S. I do not need to download any music or ringtones, I already have what music I need.

Your iPhone tingtones are set either in the settings tab or via theme manager.
In order for you to use your own ringtones, you have to download&install an iPhone theme/ringtone application into the iPhone and than you the option given byt the application.
The other option is to follow these steps:
1-u have to download itunes if u are already using the go to next step
2-go to control panel on ur computer open view and uncheck the box where it says hide extensions for known files
3-open itunes choose the song u want.. right click on the file u want and click get info check the boxs where it says start nd end and maked it from 0:00 to 0:40 choose any part of the song u like but it has to be only 4o sec so it can work
4-right click again on the song and click convert to ACC
5-it will copy the song to another type drag the copied file to ur desktop and delete it from itunes..now u can uncheck the start and stop boxes in the original file to get it full again
6-go back to the file that you copied on the dektop. see the extention m4a well rename it and make m4r and press ok to the window that pops out drag the song to the ringtone section in itunes
7-connect ur iphone to itunes and sync the ringtone section voila
