Does Google get paid for mobile phone manufacturers using Android?

I know its Open Source but does Google get any amount of money at all from the Android software it licenses or does Google get a percentage of the revenue and profits that come from the mobile handsets and hardware that the other companies sell?

Android is open source, and by description, using it on any device requires no payment to anyone. Google might charge a licensing fee for the use of their name on the devices itself (which they can do, since Google is a trademark). The manufacturers also probably pay Google for support of the system. Android can be modified from device to device, and there are different version available, so I imagine the cell companies are willing to pay for support for their systems.

Don’t forget, too, that many apps in the Market are free because they include ads. The apps use the phone’s capabilities to pinpoint the location of the device and feed ads that are geographical to the location. I have about three or four apps I use regularly that have this. So, Google is getting some revenue stream from those little ads.

Yes.

There is something called Bambuster which gives video and sound but it can only be viewed via a computer (with internet).

There is something called Knocking which sends video to a different android phone.
