How do you tell the difference between the iphone 3G and the new iphone 3GS?

How do you tell the difference between the iphone 3G and the new iphone 3GS?

Does it say anywhere on the phone that it is 3G(S) or do they just look exactly the same?

Example:

-Right belong to apple etc and then ‘Iphone 3GS’

Answer by Ask
3gs has a better picture resolutino, that is it.

Answer by anonymous
yes they look exactly the same and at the back the 3GS also says “3G” same as the 3G iphone. the easiest way to tell is to go to camera and see if the phone has video. if it has then it is a 3GS. you can also check to see if it has a compass (the compass app is in the homescreen, pretty hard to miss). only the 3GS has one.

edit: oopsie justin is right there is no 3G label at the back. i just checked my iphone.

iphone 3gs has a 3.0 megapixel camera, video recording, voice control, water resistant, and the battery lasts longer,

To tell the difference their are different methods

The iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G look exactly the same but the imprint of the name “iPhone” and all those copyright information matches the Apple logo’s reflective mirror on the 3GS. On the 3G it’s just gray while the Apple logo is a reflective mirror.

The iPhone 3GS is also way faster than the iPhone 3G. It’s not just a gimmick it’s really true.

Also it records video from the Apple Camera App. It has a slide.

You can also tell by looking at the size if it’s a 32GB it’s definitely a 3GS if it’s a 16GB use the method I said about the imprint and everything…… because the 16GB is available with the 3G and 3GS.

If it’s not jailbroken, go hold down the Home button and check if Voice Control comes up.

Hope that helped….

Also the box can be used too and the model number.

P.S. it doesn’t say 3G or 3GS on the back at all… just iPhone. The person who said it says 3G on the back is wrong…. he/she’s probably never had an iPhone 3G or 3GS at all. The 3G and 3GS are not water resistant at all.

The ipod touch 8gb is $ 230 on the apple store and the iphone 8gb is $ 200. If the iphone is also a phone why is the ipod touch more expensive? What features does one have but not the other?

Answer by tRuThBtOlD
The iphone is $ 200 because it is discounted by the carrier (AT&T), to get the discount you must sign a 2 year contract in which it cost at minimum $ 70/month for service. If you do not sign the contract the phone is retail which is $ 399 or $ 499. So in reality the iPod Touch is still cheaper because there is not monthly cost for cell phone service, however the iPhone can be used as a phone and is able to access the internet anywhere there is a cell phone signal….the ipod can only access wifi networks.

You can call people with an iPhone…

That’s the only difference i know of…

But I don’t have one so…

Answer by rrpslayer
They both have speakers and can do many of the same things but the Iphone has a little more and also allows you to use a phone on it. But, the new ipod touches are faster then any of the iphones. The reason for the Iphone being cheaper is the fact that you have to sign a contract and pay for a required data plan with ATT.

The difference is you can jailbreak an iPhone, but not an iPod Touch. That’s the only concern you should have.

Answer by Gerry G
The newly introduced iPod Touch bears striking resemblance to the iPhone, aesthetically and functionally. It uses the same multi-touch screen, apparently runs a scaled down version of OS X that runs Safari and a YouTube application, uses WiFi, has an accelerometer that allows the display to shift based on physical orientation, and uses the same “SpringBoard” interface to launch its applications.

There are, however, some important differences between the devices:

There is no email client on the iPod Touch
There is no Maps application on the iPod Touch
There are no Stocks or Weather widgets on the iPod Touch
There is no built-in camera for the iPod Touch
There are no Blutooth capabilities for the iPod Touch
The iPod Touch has a differently styled “Dock,” with a reflective surface — akin to the Dock that will debut with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
While the iPod Touch is sleeping, the user can tap the home button twice to bring up touch controls on the screen — a feature the iPhone currently lacks
The iPod Touch has a separate Contacts app — it’s built into the Phone application on the iPhone
The iPod Touch has separate Video and Music apps, whereas the iPhone has a single “iPod” app that contains these functions
There is apparently (and obviously) no microphone on the iPod Touch, though it will be interesting to see if such audio-in capabilities could be enabled via a third-party device.
The iPod touch’s headphone jack is on the bottom of the device
The iPod touch lacks a built-in external speaker
The iPod touch’s screen appears to be of a slightly higher quality than the iPhone, with 163 pixels per inch to the iPhone’s 160 pixels per inch.
