What major would be designing cell phones?

I want to work for a company like HTC, Samsung, LG, Apple, etc. I’m so into phones, i may maybe name just about every phone I see someone walking down the street with and name some key features. I want to design and come up with the thought for the phone not the software, but more so the hardware. I have no thought what major that would be.
Well i do have an thought, some type of engineering. That’s why i place it in this category.

There would be a design team

An industrial designer, an electrical engineer, and a mechanical engineer would be part of the hardware design team. They would work closely with the software engineer.

Engineering (in your case, probably computer engineering). Here, http://www.top-engineering-schools.com/types-of-engineering.html , you can learn about different types of engineering that pertain to your question. Of course, with engineering – you must study physics and math and excel at both, as well as some chemistry and English (you should be able to interpret your thoughts well). It’s a very nice choice for a career, by the way, so excellent luck!

It depends, of course, on what you mean by “design.” I knew someone once who said he had calculated (fill in name of ground-breaking, high end high tech product long before iPhone.) Ultimately I learned that, as a marketing guy, he’d had some input on what it should look like. What was inside the box, he neither knew nor cared. Not my thought of “design.”
