Will Google Voice (on a Android cellphone) cost my minutes of the plan?

Will Google Voice (on a Android cellphone) cost my minutes of the plan?

With a Android phone, when I use Google Voice to make calls, will it cost my minutes plan? or just use the data (WiFi)? Thanks.
It seems that it will cost the minutes: If I didn’t put a SIM card in it (but I connected to WiFi), when I tried to make a google voice call, it said mobile network not available.

Depends on how you have it setup. You can use sipdroid and run Google voice over VOIP and it will not use minutes. If you are simply having google voice forward to your cellphone number then, ya, you’re using you cellphone number and you will be charged for your minutes.

Do a google search for sipdroid google voice android and you will find some tutorials on how to set it up so it doesn’t use your minutes.

When it doubt, you can always turn off your cell connection and see if your setup works over WiFi only.
